If you look at the "Lounge", you will see a similar post there, please excuse my duplication, but I think there are people here that do not look at the "Lounge"

My daughter was the Financial Director of a travel company, and in these recessionary times people are cutting back on holiday travel and she has been made redundant. Is there anybody looking for an experienced company account? Sarah is aged 46 years old, is married but has no children. Sarah lives in Rutland, but will move. I know I am biased, but she is hard working, has a good attitude and is very conscientious, and I can recommend her, Sarah has a good CV and good references

Sorry to hear. Was made redundant myself (with about 50 others) at the beginning of February. Seems I was one of the lucky ones as the Company went into administration in March and is being closed up. About 500 jobs lost.

Sorry to hear this. However, I understand that there is a greater percentage of people working in East Anglia than any other part of the country, and work brings work. All the best with your job hunting

Had the chop once myself. 2 kids & one on the way house sold and about to buy a new one. Talk about turmoil.

However we looked at it as an opportunity and I went into business on my own. After a shaky start we never looked back.

Tell her to be positive and consider going out on her own if she's got all the qualifications. Overheads will be very low to start with so she could afford to undercut some of the established firms.

A bit of door knocking around the local business parks won't do any harm.

Best of luck to her anyway.

Thank you for your good wishes. It seems that you were much worse off than Sarah. Sarah has no children and there is little owed on the mortgage. It is good advice to work for yourself, however, Sarah's skills are company management accounting, and I don't think that is something that could be self employed, although I will put it to her

She may find companies that can't afford a full time FD but may be able to use someone on a freelance basis. Would be happy to chat with her as that's the sort of clients we have. D

I am returning to work on Monday after a pitstop of unemployment. Hope your daughter finds something soon.

I employ a lady who does my bookkeeping, and she has several dozen clients. It keeps her going. Maybe something to consider pro tem?

Sorry to hear that David. Will keep my ear to the ground.

Thanks guys

There's an accounting job going at work (Northwood - Middlesex).

I think your daughter would be seriously overqualified, but NATO seriously overpays - so that should make up for it.

If interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send the details to you (closing date for applications 22 MAR 13).
