There appear to be more of us here than it first appears. I've rebuilt or built all my boats as non of the production line clones suit me and anything I bought off the shelf would have to be seriously modified so I've spent my boating life so far rebuilding or building to my own spec'. Saved huge amounts of cash, always had unique vessels and never sold for less than I paid, (excluding labour which is part of the pleasure).:p

What type of boat do you have now? I am planing a big build but so far I have restored a 28 foot wooden boat as well as a number of smaller projects. I am looking at a circa 42 foot cold moulded composite construction for my new boat but I am still at the designing, planing and building the workshop stage.

Definitely a restorer/renovator! As much as a brand new boat appeals, for what I can justify in terms of layout this route has worked well and I have ended up with a boat to suit my circumstances. I have always had a thing for boats with a bit of character which often translates to "old"!

I also think it helps understand all the systems on board - where the services all run, and when there is the inevitable problem, how best to solve it.

I am sure the popularity of refit threads shows there are many on the Forum with a genuine interest in these things.

I bought my 25yr old Sealine 218 about 2 1/2 years ago and have completely rebuilt it using just the hull/superstructure and Windows, am fitting a 12 yr old diesel engine/drive, everything else is new.
Relaunch is only a few weeks away now, mooring paid for so good incentive to hurry up.

Yep.

I've just upset a load of people in PBO forum over this. They need to roll their sleeves up and crack on.

Boats parts are less than golf club membership.
