Are there any second hand boats you can\'t find through google?

We put our Hunter Minstrel on the market last week - difficult to price due to the market, and of course, because they only built about 30 they do not come up very often.

I googled and checked all the boat sale sites I know but there was not another currently on the market as far as I could see. So I had nothing to go on and priced on instinct expecting to take a lower offer.

However was chatting to a guy in the marina at the weekend and he assures me there is one in Scotland for sale. I said I knew there had been one there because we had the details before we bought ours two years ago but it was sold as far as I know and the details on the web are "archive" material.

He was adamant that there is another Minstrel and it comes up on google - and it is 3 grand less than we have ours up for.

Of course google is not all powerful (??) - is there something I am missing?

Yep, that is the one I know about - sold and on their site as archive material - cannot see a price on it though.

We had those details 2 years ago when we were looking and it sold before we could see it - not sure if it is for sale again - pictures and asking price look the same.

So possibly there aren't any on the market? Or if there are they are not particularly well advertised?

The chap I was talking to had the view that with the power of the web there was no point in asking silly money for a boat as you will soon be found out by comparison with other boats for sale. A fair point, I am sure, but if there is nothing to compare with?

Obviously his point may be that we want silly money - and a boat is worth what someone will pay for it of course.

When we bought two years ago there were three available - the one we bought, the one in Scotland that is now on the archive list and the one in Devon (see previous post) - all around the same money (the Devon boat did not have a trailer) so there were 10% of the boats ever produced for sale at the same time.

So far I am glad that no one has been able to say "of course there is another on the market!"

Is it really that common for people to look for just one make of boat? I would think normally you have a few boats in mind and/or are looking for a boat of certain characteristics, size and price.

What I mean is, only because yours is the only of it's kind on the market doesn't mean the price is justified. People still compare it with comparable boats of other makes, don't they?

Yes I think you are right - we recently looked at a variety of different makes of boats when thinking what to upgrade to. Even boats of the same make/model - e.g. the Centaur - vary enormously in asking price.

I suppose the original point of the post was just to see if there are still sites which google does not find because he was adamant that there was another one on the market.

I am personally comfortable with our asking price.
