Are singlehanders sad gits or hero's ?

What is a \'sad git\' anyway?

Eudorajab: The perfect answer!. Similarly, none of my family are interested in sailing, and we each have our own hobbies/interests. I have been single-handing for 20 odd years and it just doesn't bother me that 99 per cent of the time I am out there alone enjoying the tranquility that sailing brings. There is also the quiet satisfaction of accomplishing a passage completely unaided. I returned yesterday from a 200 mile, 2 week trip in my 18 footer from Chichester out to Swanage with various diversions along the way and managed perfectly without a crew. Thats just the way it is. Nothing sad or romantic or anti-social. Funny, but a fellow-sailor in my boatyard let slip the other week that I was known about the place as 'The Intrepid One'!. I wonder - does that mean 'hero'?.
