Are Raymarine chart plotters OK ?

[ QUOTE ]
[quoteI want a small pod to fit a bowthruster control to, but cant believe how much a piece of moulded fibreglass can command!!

You'll probably find that one of Maplins waterproof project cases will do that nicely for under a tenner

Many Thanks - That sounds a bit more like it.... Do you mean the IP54 stuff:

which seems to resist splashing water, or is there something more waterproof? If so, I cant find it... any chance of a URL?

Cheers

Two E series Chartplotters went on Ebay a coulpe of days ago from the RayMarine (reburbish) shop. About £900 and £1250 for an E80 and E120. Good deal for someone (six months guarentee too). I wish I had had the cash to bid. It is worth keeping an eye out on Ebay but watch out for scammers. There was a spate of them a year or so ago... You know, too cheap to be true...

Alternatively try and buy in the USA. Even with VAT added on they are miles cheaper there. I know RM get sniffy about honouring guarentees though if anything went wrong.

AIS250...

Why is the RM AIS receiver so expensive!!, NASA one is 1/3rd of the RM price.

[/ QUOTE ]The two products aren't comparable, although I'd agree the Raymarine is currently priced at a premium. However, the Raymarine AIS250 also includes a VHF/FM aerial splitter and an NMEA multiplexer. It also has status LEDs, whereas the Nasa receiver gives no indication at all whether anything's happening.
