Are dry bilges necessary?

I found this thread having read of a wooden boat for sale which the seller proudly announced was "kept wet bilged and salted. " It was a wooden hull.

I think water in the bilges is bad from an osmosis point of view as well , i think I read something about it , anyway it can’t help imho
