Most people you meet would say boaters are really posh with loads of money.

I do wonder sometimes if this is mostly true when you see some of the boats and people in marinas.

So, are most of you from good families with loads of old money or are you a self made man (or woman)?

ditto... live in a 3 bed semi, have no desire to live in a bigger place, got a decent job that pays well, zero debt and spend the disposable on fun stuff. I hope I can say I'm one of the true work to live types who couldn't give a toss about wealth and take folk as I find them..

O the posh posh traveling life, the traveling life for me
First cabin and captain's table regal company
Pardon the dust of the upper crust - fetch us a cup of tea
Port out, starboard home, posh with a capital P-O-S-H, posh...........

that's me!

Grammar school child that spent far too much time in the computer room.
I'm really not sure that "big, furry, techie" counts as posh.

Dad ran a small engineering works ("Vison" machine tools), Mum was a teacher.

One of these well known boaters is posh, can you tell which one?

All my money is "old money", & much of it seems to be pre-decimalisation.

After WW2, common working people were encouraged to sail by a plethora of ship's lifeboats, cheap plywood home builds & then small GRP cruisers. Percy Blndford, Jack Holt, barry Bucknell et al did their bit to get everyone afloat & professional crews were no longer de rigeur. The age of sailing toffs died.

Most boat owners that I have ever met have earned the money to buy their boats, and they continue to do so to run their boats.

Not met many posh folk round my marina, even though it is very bl00dy expensive.

Cheers

Garold

Wrong forum, "posh" folk generally don't drive their own boats - self made or legacy! Their entry level seems about 100ft. ;) ;). Beyond MBY and out of view for MBM.

Its like most hobbies really youmeet people from all walks of life on a marina.
I know a builder, car dealer, retired gas woeker, plumber a retired computer company owner and numerous salespeople and company directors very few if any would you describe as posh, just worked or work hard for thier money and choose to spend it on boats.
