The webby is still running, and has been for ages but Coastal Leisure are touting this:

Doesnt look like any of the old Birchwoods, but the logo and things used on the site are the same. Says it will be in the UK soon, so i guess built abroad.

Anyone know any more?

Well that is a bit wierd eh? That one you put up does look a bit like the 390 they were building a few years back..... still the lineup on the website doesnt seem to match what they are selling at coastal leisure.... but the website seems to be being updated.... Links to sibs 2008 and they appear to be going to have a stand as well.....

That 8 boat line up looks a bit ambitious given the history....

Seems to have some American links... wonder if they are just rebranding some existing boats, maybe something from Brazil?

Their corporate "contact us" address resolves to a residential housing estate in Berkshire, so not exactly a global mega-operation just yet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just looked, the Platinum 410 appears to be a rebadged Garin Platnum 40.

Birchwood:

Garin 40 built by Moa Tecnica in Spain:

No idea what the others are, but this looks like a branding excercise.

I will be interested to see what the price is at SIBS - you can buy the Garin version for £169,000 for the standard (birchwood 410) or £199,000 for the platinum (same as the birchwood platinum 410) from Carrera Yachting in france.

Coatal Leisures Birchwoods (seen here) seem to be completly different to those boats on the birchwood.co.uk web site.

The CL boats start at 40ft and go up to 110ft!!! They are using the same Birchwood logo as birchwood.co.uk.

So, do we now have two companies, with different boats bith using the Birchwood name and logo? The plot thickens...

Well duh, i think I mentioned that..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyways....There is a link off of the CL site to Birchwood that is working, so i dont think its two peeps using the same branding... I think its a new deal... looks like its coming from Carrerra yachting... maybe they have brought the brand, might be easier to flog in the UK as it still has quite a bit of recognition here......the US operation seems more sorted too....

Anyways... are the new boats any good??

The name, at least, is honourable, and as a real Birchwood owner, I can only hope the name will be used in a proper fashion.

Either way, it will never detract from the reputaion of the genuine vessels*

*Don't even think of it.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It would have been nice if, at least one of the retards who answered, answered in direct response to the original thread subject requested..... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I drove past the factory on Friday and it seemed as desolate as ever with no activity.

I believe there were actually three companies under the Birchwood banner, Birchwood Boats ltd, Birchwood Boat Co., and Birchwood Boats International. Not sure which did what.

When they went bust last time (and SWMBO lost her job there) two of the Companies were sold to a couple of guys from the South, possibly the Berkshire connection. The third business was retained but I think is dormant.

I would doubt very much if production could ever be resurrected as it was, since most of the workforce (some of whom were very good craftsmen) have been lost to other businesses and industries, and would probably not go anywhere near Birchwood again, bearing in mind the history.

I am told that the ex MD now runs a marina in Norfolk.

:bump: anyway. The timing of these posts is remarkable. My father was Ted Andrews - the founder of Birchwood Boats (leaving aside the Co., Ltd., International part for now). He died in August 2008, and his funeral was on Aug. 18th - one day after the last post in this thread. He ran the company from the early 60's until 1996, when it entered receivership. It was sold to a local businessman and my father continued with his other business interests.

Birchwood was a major part of my life when I was growing up (I was born in 1960) and I know that he was frustrated that his involvement in the brand that he had built finished the way that it did.
