I've just received an email from Ancasta offering £20,000 off an Oceanis 37, £26,000 off an Oceanis 40, £47,000 off an Oceanis 46, and £29,000 off an Oceanis 54.

Are Beneteau suffering in the crunch? Should buyers be wary of paying a deposit to a company that might be going under?

Maybe it's cancelled orders where they have nearly finished the boats?

I'd certainly want to understand the situation before parting with any cash.

ALL boat manufacturers are in trouble at the moment as it's always been one of the first sectors to be hit in any downturn. Volume manufacturers are always more at risk too because of their high overheads and financial gearing. Look for bargains all over the place!

Maybe, maybe not.
I had to liquidate or close out stock loads of times, it's a fact of business. it's probably very tough selling boats right now and businesses will only survive by adapting quickly enough and getting their heads down. But why is it that when this happens, people assume the worse? Yes do what's necessary to protect your interests but don't do a BBC and spread the alarm.

I've just received a very similar letter from Hanse - gave them my details three years ago at the Southampton Boat Show. Hard times for everyone, it seems.

At least if you are buying existing dealer stock that is over here and fully built, you can receive good title immediately upon handing over your payment. Your downside is therefore limited to loss of warranty support if the dealer goes under. Plus I suppose the vagaries of second hand resale values.

Guapa...explain your comments.

Whilst i dont work for them i know enought about them to question your "inside" comments?!?!

I sincerely suggest you explain your self.

apart from making bendy boats they cannot have a problem, the French government will find some way of bailing them out - unlike the UK 'rumoured to be' labour administration

Beneteau have huge cash reserves in the bank and are building a new powerboat facility in Italy. yes they are forecasting a huge downturn but are shrewd enough to ride this one out.
