If you are stung by a jelly fish and you haven't got vinegar you can always wee on it!!
If the tentacles are still on you, don't brush them off, just fires more of the stinging cells.
Mooring ropes that have been in the sea a long time and have growth on them often have stinging hydroids attached (more tropical/subtropical than UK).
Always thought the Portugese MoW floated on the surface and moved with the wind rather than submerged and swimming? It's not a single animal by the way but a colony of 'em.
