Archimedes Penta 5hp air cooled outboard

Hi, Ive just bought an old one of these off ebay. I know nothing about them, I am just playing really. Any info about them you can give me will be very useful. Where will i find spares? Is it a generic motor made by someone else? Any experience or knowledge appreciated. Thank you

I had something which may have been the same, bing carburettor, and white fuel tank, maybe orange trim. remember stripping it down to find the impellor.It had none! cooling depended upon partial air cooling but there was a pitot tube which when the craft attained some speed provided some water cooling. Maybe my recollection is faulty. I tired of its cranky ways, and screwed it to a skip outside my door. Predictably it disappeared!

Yes got one of those. At least the Volvo Penta version
Pensioned it off years and years ago. been sitting in the garage ever since but did a spell for a friend a couple of years back.
Kept fouling its plug and stopping at crucial times, like just as the anchor came in sight. Actually on passage would run for hours without missing a beat.

Was going to try a hotter plug but widening the gap may well be worth a try.

you'll see spares now and then on ebay. Someone did tell me where there is a big stock of spares I wonder if I've written it down.

Similar to 3.9 hp Archimedes and Crescents. 5 hp versions basically the same motor with gears, full casing remote fuel tank and uprated somehow.

Saw one on ebay a while back for more than I paid for it when new!

I suppose you want a copy of the owners manual?

Paul remebers pretty well. Orange and white was Crescent livery I think. Or was it Archmedes. Water cooled exhaust air cooed engine.

I have a 35bhp Archmedes Penta lying in my garden. Free to good home if anyone wants to collect from South Manchester. I should add that we used it for a few years within the BSAC NW Region, it was regularly lost overboard during underwater search and recovery courses. PM me if anyone fancies a real challenge!

I think PB have changed the way things work since I first posted them but you can select the pages one by one and zoom in a couple of times to get nice big easy to read images.

I had one of those (as a Volvo Penta 35). Beautifully smooth running 3 cylinder engine. I believe Volvo sold the rights + tooling etc to Yamaha (?) who produced it under their banner for some years.
