Arcachon, anyone been recently?

We were there in July . It was much better than we expected after reading Reeds comments. The entrance is still the same, buoys unlit etc but no problem if you arrive at the right time. We spent two night anchored outside the marina then two in the marina , stay two nights the second is free. The staff were most helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Remember the buoys are moved more often than the charts are updated so not be where you expect them. There are seriously shallow banks round the entrance so take care. If like us you arrive at first light keep an eye open for the fishing boats coming out, they are in the channel so make a good guide. Entering and leaving outside the recommended tidal windows can be very dangerous and a yacht was lost just before our visit. Also there is a wreck just of the town centre which is a very popular fishing spot, take care as you pass When we were there we berthed on the town side at the entrance and found the shower and toilet facilities on that side basic and open to the public. The holding tank pump out is free and effective. The big supermarket is a bit out of town but the local bus service is good. The marina office is helpful and publishes the test range activity notices along with the weather.

Arcahon is a nice spot but not cheap unless you get out of town a bit, I used to visit on business quite often. Have a good visit

Thanks for taking the time to respond. We enjoyed Arcachon, however, it was 140 euro's a night! got one night free but I would give it a miss next time! Dottie
