ARC starts today

That's certainly what the tracker shows. The Atlantic synoptic charts are awe inspiring!!
A lot of cruising boats are staying firmly in the Canaries.

I think the boats that stayed in the Canaries are getting pounded at the moment.

'A severe weather warning has been issued for the Canary Islands, with gale-force winds and heavy rain expected to affect the area until Friday 13 December. Some airport and port services are disrupted. Local authorities advise that tourists and residents remain indoors

At least one boat is on the beach and others in marinas are reporting damage.

Sustained winds of hurricane force were reported.

> Actually, I think it's just the ARC via Cape Verdes that's 'closed',

Yes you are right it was ARC+ via the Cape Verdes I hadn't realised that. The ARC started on 24/11 and it usually closes 26 days later.

Yep it was very windy over the last few days here in Las Palmas. Have heard from friends of a Dutch boat that departed early this week had 3 days of 30kn headwinds and are now motoring, apparently this boat also heard 3 separate maydays. So me thinks we will spend Christmas in the Canaries and move on once the weather settles.

I also hope next years possible ARC candidates are paying some attention to all that has happened in the last few weeks including the journalist who made the very interesting statement on the front of this website, early this week stating that the trades are not to be trusted any more! LMAO,,,,,,,,,

THE TRADES ARE NOT COMERCIAL AND DEFIANTLY DO NOT WORK FOR THE WORLD CRUISING CLUB.

A prudent skipper only undertakes an ocean passage when he thinks fit.

Not that I am a prudent skipper, just quite fancy Xmas in Las Palmas, the Spanish sure know how to throw a good party :-)

Have a great day

Darren
