Aquastar Pacesetter 27

Does anyone have any experience of an Aquastar Pacesetter 27 semi-displacement cruiser, fitted with a 135 hp diesel engine?

Is this a good coastal sea boat? Good and bad points of these boats? What would be the expected fuel consumption cruising at 7 knots?

Any other information / experiences would be most appreciated.

Yes, this is the boat, however, I thought 15.9 litres / hr seems quite high for a single engine installation?

I looked at that one too, for better accommodation, but was deterred by the mpg! I'm drinking 8 litres /hr at 9 knots with a max of 12knots tops, and if rumours of fuel prices doubling in November are true (?) I'd better advertise for a sexy one-legged midget to fit the forepeak and stay put . . .

I guess it does seem high, I have a 26 foot single engine boat with 260hp and use 20 litres/hour for 15 knots and at 27knots only 32 litres/hour. These are from engine data but give me 3.5 mpg easily.

Mate of mine bought one of these in December, but with the Iveco 230hp engine, so can't really help on the fuel other to say he's been surprised at how much it's used, only about 2mpg at 12 knots.

I've crewed for him from Burnham back to Brighton, and must say they're good and solid. The only criticism I have is that it gives a very wet ride, which sort of doesn't matter as you're enclosed, but the wettest boat I've ever been on.

Yep, a wet ride alright.
Done a few miles in one with a 210 Cummings.

WOT reached 17 kts.
Cruised ok at 12/13.
Consumption about 4. 1/2 galls an Hour if I remember correctly.
Good as gold into a head sea.
Didn,t like it on the quarter.
Same as most S Displacement hulls of that length.
Safe enough but the Helm gets busy!

This particular example was a 'Sail Away' and the internal stuff was 'Home Fit'
Nowt wrong with that.
However the Owner was a Bespoke Joiner.

Lovely timber throughout.
A bit ott imho.
So much georges wood but Cripes!
Must have been a Ton of it!

Solid seaworthy boat in most conditions.
Don't go looking for eceonomy if yer wants ter move along a bit.

My S Displacement Nimbus is a lot lighter.
An old bugger biult in 1984.
105 hp green thingy lump.
12 kts + 3.5 galls an hour.

Anyway to sum up fwiw.
Pacesetter?

Good solid hull, safe sea boat.
Would like more than 135 hp if I was to buy one.

Need 14 kts minimum in My area due to strong tides etc.

That fuel consumption is similar to my 33 which has twin 200hp cummins engines and suggests that that 135hp single unit is working quite hard.

In addition to below posts, if you only want to cruise at 7 knots I guess you will do much better than quoted.
From 8 knots up, there will be a disprportionate increase in fuel consumption, as is the case with any SD hulled boat. You are pushing along a lot of water.
