... It's also the case that several brands have no lens to the deck light. Mine has no lens, is years old, and works fine.
I was under the impression that it was to prevent the bulbs from overheating but could be wrong. Maybe it's both reasons.
Yes, I thought it was to avoid overheating - at least with my deck flood which did finally succumb after about 20 years. I was going to search for a sealed type, but then thought that (i) it would mean a different fit with more holes, and (ii) I'd be delighted if I were around and concerned about it in another 20 years.
