I have a Aquasignal stern light which the glass has succumbed to uv. It seems that replacement lenses are unobtainable and I will need to replace the whole lamp, which is a shame as the rest of it is fine. I have thought about making a new lense from clear perspex by heating it and bending it around a former to fit.I can then seal it into the original plastic surround with sillicon. Can anyone see a problem with this?

It won't have the fresnel wedges to create the requisite light spread; if the lense has clouded due to UV it's worth having a go at it with some polish, the same thing happens to car headlights and there are kits for the job sold on your favourite online auction monopoly.

I agree. Making one with plain Perspex will mean it wont have the Fresnel lenses which concentrate the light into a horizontal pattern instead of wasting some to the sky and to the water.

If they are cloudy or crazed Penfolds suggestion wont work ( but it is an excellent way of restoring discoloured car headlight lenses.)

Some years ago I bought some cheap Aqua Signal 25 lookalikes and found the lenses were in fact interchangeable with the Aqua Signal ones. That may be an option if they are still available.

A Google search does suggest that parts are available, including lenses, depending on the model.

The is a USA site Replacement Navigation Light Lenses

and another USA site.

Aqua Signal Aqua Signal Replacement Lens Assembly - Series 40 All-Round Navigation Lights

You could contact them directly and ask where spare parts are sold in the UK for your style.

Navigation lights user guide - Glamox Recreational. Scroll to the bottom of the page for contact details.

Good luck.
Just sent an E. mail sent to Glamox. Thanks. I'm now waiting in anticipation :)

24 hours later, no reply. :(
Hi Laysula, i am quite sure i have an aquasignal stern light in my shed. I just have to go out for a couple of hours. When i get back, if i can find it you would be welcome to the whole fitting. I will let you know. Best regards, Oz.

Hi Laysula, i have found the aquasignal stern light in my shed. The lens looks like it's got a slight smokey colour. If this might be if use to you, you are welcome to it. My boat is across the bay from you in Torquay inner harbour. I'll be there tomorrow ( Saturday ) from about7:30 till about 9 o'clock, when you are welcome to pick it up. All the best, Oz.

Hi Oz, that would be great cheers. Is that morning or afternoon or all day?

Hi Laysula, i will be there from about 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning. My boat is called ' GIENAH ' and it is on the side where the 400 ballroom used to be. I will keep an eye out for you, just give us a shout.

Ok. That's great. See you in the morning.

Well that was my fault,I should have said it was a 41. Thanks anyway Oz, nice to meet you. So I'm still looking for a aquasignal 41 lense. I did look at SVB, thanks Pcd, unfortunatly the postage pushes the price up to almost the same cost as a complete lamp from the local chandlery
Still no reply from Glamox. :(
