I've got Aqua Signal bow lights and, somehow, the starboard cover has been dislodged.

I can kind of see how it comes off, but cant release the bottom bit, and know I'll break it if I try anymore. It's not the bolts on the back of the unit as these merely hold the body onto the rail.

Any ideas for what is holding it on at the bottom, and how to release it? Good job I'm doing this now and not at sea /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(Edit - just found a diagram which shows a locking screw at the bottom outboard of the unit - cant shift it... see post about 3 down from this)

Reluctant to try the port one for fear of ending up in the same position.

Many Thanks

press the button on the top and tilt the case forwards (away from the mount) whilst lifting. Bit of a knack to it I know.

Alternatively try the lock wall approach and get your boat sideways in Ipswich lock at 0100h on a windy night and then the pullpit light comes off really easily!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Alternatively try the lock wall approach and get your boat sideways in Ipswich lock at 0100h on a windy night and then the pullpit light comes off really easily!!!"

A variation on that technique is to go slightly bows in on the wall of Chichester marina lock. When the water level starts to drop, the light pops off easily.

Seriously, there's normally a locking cam sandwiched between the pulpit mount and the backing plate, that you can get at with a small screwdriver. Move that across, and the lamp will lift off the mounting, giving you much better all-round access to dismantle.

Re: Aquasignal Bow light - Getting cover off??

First undo the locking screw which is well hidden at the bottom on the outboard side! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Easier said than done... it's a tiny diameter philips, which has been in situ for possibly 15 years, and which may be bent at its' inboard end!!

The cross head drivers I have are all slipping, so I'm going to strip the head if I'm not careful. The smaller drivers I cant get a grip of so my hand slips rather than turning the screw - any suggestions?

At least I know how it works now!

Cheers

you might be better of drilling the screw out if it is rounded of,just drill the head off, remove the lens and undo the stub with mole grips,

Raffles is right, however on sonsy lass i bust mine trying to do what you are doing, i bodged it with some self amalgamated tape around the rim. it lasted for 2 years and was still going strong when i sold her

"popping" is a word easy to say, but often difficult to do /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Self amalgamating tape may be the answer!!

Good plan, because you will need to sit down to when you see how much a new one is. I have a spare yellowing white one if you are desperate.

Thanks for the offer - not desperate yet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

£35, whilst a lot for a bulb in a case, didnt surprise me as much as I expected.

It seems that the screw is a spare part, so I might be able to get one, and grind the existing head off.

In the meantime, a bit of tape will probably do the trick.

worked once for me so you could try

Wife's hairdryer on full blast, warmed plastic case and slowly eased the cover back onto the the lugs at the top. The problem in part is the bent plate that it is attached to. Once back warm water onto the screw, dried off and then WD40

Failing that break it and replace it but deep wallet required

I guess you have worked out the mechanics of it by now but here is an exploded diagram just in case (your light looks like a series 41).

Hi Dipper

Correct, it's a 41. And probably handy for others to have the diagram in the thread.

I found the diagram yesterday. That was where I discovered there was a screw holding it on /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
