Aquasignal 40 tricolor LED replacement bulb from Boatlamps

Yes. I’ve had one a number of years, still working well. I have had the similar product at deck level navy lights and they fail repeatedly. A drop of sea water on these things will destroy them and eventually some salty mist will get up there, so I don’t think it’s a good product. You could improve it with an acrylic spray coating, but the real answer is a sealed unit.

I'm surprised at that. I've had LED bulbs in the Aquasignal 40s at the bow for nearly ten years without any problems with the bulbs. And the bow has been under on a good many occasions over that time.

Not tried the OP's bulb but it does look well designed for use in a tricolour. Lining up the sectors has always put me off fitting one there, but I might consider that one.

Bulbs are fine and if well greased will not corrode much and even if the do, they still work. LEDs turn to dust as soon as they smell the sea.

Not my experience. You have just prompted me to check and the boatlamps LEDs
in my often dunked, bow mounted lights are still perfect after 5 years

That's not good advice. You've probably got waterproofed or sealed LEDs. An unprotected LED as is used in the cheaper lamps like the one the OP linked to will be destroyed by seawater very fast. The people at Boatlamps agree with me. Here's a copy and paste quote from their website:

Please regularly check that your navigation light fixtures are water tight. Gaskets harden over time and poorly sealed cable entries are prone to leaking. This is very important for bow mounted fixture that can be submerged occasionally in heavy seas. Our warranty specifically excludes damage to LED lamps due to salt water contamination. We can supply waterproof lamps for use in exposed light fixtures such as deck level port, starboard and bi-colour lights.

Yes, but if you use Boatlamp's waterproof bulb, which is encapsulated in resin and guaranteed againt water ingress, they are fine at the bow. Cost is about 50% more.

.
This 3-color LED specifically designed for this fitting looks ideal - anyone got/used one?

I have used these in both my bi colour and tri colour and being warn white does display the correct colour and sector angle and any reasonable distance

2 for less than the price on one from boat lamps.

There are also cool white for use in anchor, steaming and stern lights much brighter than and incandescent bulbs.

Quite a few years with no problems at the top of the mast and a 2 colour on the bi light ? on the pulpit that gets quite a bit of saltwater over it.

One problem that I found with the tri light after a few years was that the coloured LEDS didn't match with the lens ! Took a minor bit of engineering to rotate the bulb mount to line up.
