Has any one fitted aquadrive or simillar anti -vibration units to propshafts. I have been looking at some by Halyards and at £850.00 +vat each I am wondering if they are worth fitting. My set up an aft cabin 35ft grp boat with 2- 150hp-6 cylinder fords on shafts with Borg warner velvet drives. It is connected with 5" metal to metal flanges straight on to the propshafts. Neadless to say the vibration is awfull. These units from halyards have to be glassed in and the shafts cut down, expensive and time consuming if it only makes a marginal difference

You can get a flexible coupling for much much less than that. I've just had a new one fitted. Cant tell you the cost yet.

Look at R&D web site (http://www.randdmarine.co.uk/flexiblesc.asp) for details. I have one of these and it removed nearly all the vibration I previously had. Are your shafts tapered at engine end? If plain (with clamp-type coupling) may not need them shortened - just move further into coupling to allow for thickness of R&D flexible.

Cheers,

Jerry

If your props, cutlass bearings and engine mounts are in good condition and your engine alignment is correct you should not expect much vibration.
