Hi

I have an offer on a 01 26HT but am second in line on that one, but for little more money there is another 04 model with better spec and only 30 hours on it, is 30 hours too little for a 04 engine? I will be getting a survey before parting with my money, anything else to watch for, Thanks

Well here's my two pennies worth, probably stating the bleedin obvious, but 4 hours running per year sounds a bit suspicious to me unless it's been laid up ashore somewhere.

I'd be concerned that it has been unloved and uncared for otherwise surely someone would have put more hours on than that? Check everything carefully, all switches, lights, domestic appliances, nav gear and particularly the sterngear, have all the anodes been changed as needed, and has the engine been regularly serviced, are there service records? Is all the upholstery dry and mould free, has the fuel tank been kept topped up, any sign of water in the fuel?
Check and check again, ask why so few hours. Does the explanation add up? Be suspicious, don't be fobbed off. Could be a great boat, only you (and your surveyor) can judge. Good luck.

Just be aware of "underuse" problems that could arise, e.g. stuck turbos, fuel blockages, mouldy interiors etc.

A lot will depend on whether it was winterised / serviced properly, and how it was stored, despite being unused.

Wasn't there a recent post about one of these? It was not loved at all, sad really as I do like them. If I recall that was in Ireland and I see the OP is in Ireland - coincidence?

Peanuts - That was me! Thankfully this is not the same boat that Day Dream's is enquiring about so he should be safe

Hi Padraig,

The 2001 boat was built in Ireland and suffered from poor quality control; Go (infact Run) for the 2004. Yes the engine seems very low use but given it has a volvo in it the Hour meter may have stopped working. It may also have been used on Inland Waterways. Best idea to get a Volvo engineer onboard (Independent if possible) with you on the seatrial and see what happens. Offer is subject to survey so make sure you include Seatrial! The Aq26HT is an Awesome boat, I had the smaller sister the 23HT...Happy days.

Have your engineer plug in either the vodka or diagnostic key, after that he can read any information that has been stored like over revving, high, boost and coolant temp, as well as the true hours the motor has run.

Re: Aquador 26HT opinions

Padraig

I bought one of these new in 2004 but only kept it for 1 season as I was only using it for day trips around west Cork, I sold it on to 2 guys in Arklow.
They are a great short stay boat weekending etc.
One of the things that I had a problem with on my current boat which was also a low usage boat was exposed hydarulic hoses I ended up having to replace my steering and trim hoses after 6 months.
Is the boat you are looking at in the Cork area by any chance?

Thanks for the replys so far, I have walked away from the 01 boat because the dealer started playing games, he has been trying to sell it for 3 years and all of a sudden there is a guy flying in from Holland to buy it, but if I increase my offer he will keep it for me!

The 04 Boat is in North Dublin in dry storage, the story is that he bought it a few years ago as a first boat and the family did not enjoy the coastal water, so it seldom saw the water, I have seen one in Cork for sale but the price is too high for todays market. I hope to sell my own boat this weekend and will then be in a postion to engage an engineer/surveyer to view the boat.

Any good Volvo guys in Dublin?

Cheers
