AQUADOR 26HT -advice pls, about to buy & boating w/ young kids

Jez,

I like your advice regarding TV... I have held off buying game consoles for similar reasons.

BUT... I do like the idea of one on board for overnighting. Sometimes it's fun to watch a DVD together while at anchor, plus I don't get to miss football matches!

Just need to set rules about TV watching, and have the option. How hard those rules will be to enforce as they get older I don't know!

The more I look at the 26, the more I like it. Lovely little boat.

Hi Tom

I also looked at the 26 HT and was impressed maybe you could also consider the 28C as this has high sides with walk around decks and patio doors.

We have son at 3½ years and daughter at just over 1. They both love being on the boat, especially sleeping on it, and would echo the comments made here. Flat cockpit essential, as is some way of restraint for the younger ones. We've found safety lines useful as they get bored and grumpy if strapped down the whole time in a buggy or seat.

We do have TV with DVD player on board (though it's just gone phut), and we find it useful for times when they're otherwise in the way or when we're preoccupied, such as when preparing meals, around bedtime or when arriving back and we're cleaning and tidying up. We try to resist putting it on otherwise though.

Guys

Thanks for all of this advice. It is really helpful and hopefully enough to convince my good lady wife.

Insurance estimate - i was just guessing. As a man who always underestimates the cost of things (eg new bathrooms and woman's clothes!!) i am delighted to see that insurance estimate appears to be way off the mark.

Thanks again to the Forumites for your help.

Off to get final approval from the Finance Director!

Tom
