Aqua Filter - Jabsco

I have done this and the refilled filter to the boat but discovered I'd managed to invert it and all the granules fell out... Gave up and bought a new filter at exorbitant price as mentioned. I'll try again next year and hopefully get it right.
Used the granules as mentioned above in #4

How often are most people changing these filters? We've always run the tank empty as poss then stuck a new filter in line in spring ,then pulled first tank full through , ie washing up etc After that its sweet for drinking no bother.

Interesting! And I note that the price has almost doubled in a couple of years.
Our main need is for something to remove the unpleasant taste following use of sterilising liquid in tank. Is it the silver which does that?

Yes, I used to pay just over 20 quid. Enough.

Apparently the silver is there to add a degree of disinfectant action, to prevent a build up of contamination over time. My working idea is that if you change the thing regularly this may not be a vital feature. I have contacted the company above for reassurance that the stuff is compatible with drinking water filters and will report back.
1kg of charcoal for £12 would refresh these filters at least 5 times.

We long ago gave up paying stupid money for those tiny filters. A guy in the water industry told me the silver was a con. It's washed out of the filters within a few weeks.
We use 2x 10" clear filter housings. The first one has a 1 micron filter installed. The second one has a carbon block filter. The pre filter is about £3. The carbon block are about £10. We put about 20,000 litres through the carbon filter before we bin it and replace. That about 12 months water at the moment.

Silver, assuming it is actually doing something, is mildly antibacterial; if the water has already been disinfected by the supplier(more or less universal in the UK) it's a waste of money, just use ordinary food-safe or potable water compatible activated charcoal.
