Hi all, was hoping someone can guide me. I have a boat that has a seized AQD40A. I believe it could be a seized tail shaft bearing but found a tamd40ASupposed Government Surplus Running take out( for a decent price so decided to pick it up. Figure the one in the boat can be a parts motor. I want to get the AQD40 out of the boat. Can this be done without filling removing the transom shield and bell housing assembly? I seem the two FWD mounts as well as the bell housing bolts. Other than that just the small stuff like fuel and throttle cable ect

Yes you can unbolt the bell housing bolts leaving it attached to the transom and just lift out the engine. There is one bolt behind the exhaust downpipe that you won’t get out as its too long but you just unscrew it and leave it where it is and start that one first when you refit the engine.

Others will be more more informed but in theory ? Engine alone should come out without touching the transom assembly.
Would remove engine and flywheel housing complete as one lump and refit housing and flywheel to to "new" engine.

If it was me would be checking the jackshaft bearings seals and anything else while the thing is in bits.Including steering yoke top hat seals .
Need the drive plate from your old engine, jackshafts came with two differing numbers of splines.
