Hoping somebody can help steer me with this. I picked up a 23 FT Glasply that has a siezed AQD40A 280 OD in it. 3700 hours on the motor but appears owner kept it somewhat maintained. Oil looks good. Borescoped it with the injectors out and no fractured pistons. The crank does not even wiggle. I read that these can get water in the bell housing and sieze the tail shaft bearings. When I got the boat it already had the starter off as well as the gear box that attaches the crank to the outdrive. It appeared to have alot of rust in the bellhousing as well as the bearing that's visible on the aft side of the crank ( tail peice I think). Is there a way to remove the shaft from the rear of the engine without pulling the engine all the way out? I would like to find a way to verify if that is what's holding the engine solid.
