Hi all, my timing belt has broken, can anyone recommend an engineer to install new belt? boat in Thornham Marina. Thanks for your help Tony

I assume it broke while running, in which case, won't you need more than just a new belt?

AFAIR not on the AQ151s or AQ145s, because the valves don't interfere with the pistons, but if AQ171 then it's a whole world of pain

Wow, that's lucky then. Not many engines you can get away wth a snapped cam belt on. Having said that, I got lucky back in the 80's with a 2.0 litre cortina ohc. Had it been a 1.6 I would have been in trouble!

Get rid of it and put a GM 3.0 or 4.3 in. Terrible engines. Was just discussing how poor they are on another post.
If you plan on keeping the boat it would be worth while. A world of misery.

thanks for the address, I was manually turning the engine over, I did not notice at first the belt had broken so now the engine is out of sink, I don't know how to put the engine back in the right position before the belt goes on as my pulleys do not appear to have any marks on them to line up to. thanks again

Seem to remember that there are little dots on the belt wheels that are positioned at the 12 o'clock position...... I may well be wrong tho.
The procedure is covered in the workshop manual. I did this on a 171, but many years ago and the manual has gone AWOL.
