AQ145B Coolant Pump?

Hi all, I'm hoping I can tap in to some prior knowledge on this... :)

I've got a pair of AQ145b's in a Fairline Sunfury, the coolant pump (not raw water) on the port engine is U/S and throwing coolant out around the engine bay. I understand these pumps are very similar to those fitted to the old Volvo 240 2.3 8v lump, (B230?) but require some modifications to fit to the marine engine and heat exchanger. The car pump is ~£30 from German and Swedish, the Marine pump is £150+ :(

I haven't taken the old pump off yet, as it's just usable with the pressure cap off and close eye on the gauges, but would like to have a new pump ready to take down to the boat next time.

Thanks in anticipation!

Bought a B230 pump from GSF car parts to compare against the Marine pump...

Basically the only modifications required to the automotive pump are to shorten one inlet and weld a collar on to it to make the connection female. It will then hook up to the male pipe from the marine heat exchanger. There is also a small bypass hole on the automotive pump that is blocked on the Marine pump, but if you left it I'm sure the pump would still work fine.

What staggers me is the price Volvo Penta charge for this slightly modified pump...a new marine pump is £1032!!

Fortunately I discovered SP Water Pumps in Cheshire who have rebuilt my pump for £70 more than the cost of the automotive version.

I'll be modifying the automotive pump for a spare, when the starboard engine gives up!

cheers,

Keith
