April 2019 YM: Red to white diesel dilution

That also removes the engine quite efficiently... Right, they might not forget neutralizing the stuff ;)

Doesn't sound like a process I'd care to mess around with to save the duty on a car tankful of diesel. The cost/benefit ratio might change if it was a tanker full.

Has any one noticed all the activity during the winter with water side fuel stations cleansing/replacing their equipment and brimming them with unmarked fuel to enable us to be compliant going forward?

Me neither. So heres my plan.

Either A,
Motor around the channel for c130 hrs to burn off all my red.
Arrive somewhere continental running on the dregs.
Use Pela to extract the 10-15 litres below the pick up.
Save that for the heater.
Warp it round to the fuel berth for 270l of finest french white.
Enjoy the north europe coast with impunity.

Or B,
Say sod that for a lark and stay this side of La Manche.

As for "EU rules of the road" ... In Germany I have to give way to a car approaching from the right in a side street (at an unmarked junction) but in France I don't.

A dangerous statement to make JD. The general rule in France is "priorité à droite". However if the road has yellow diamond markings it is one which has priority.

As far as roundabouts are concerned they changed the rule about 30 years ago so that the person already on the roundabout has priority - except that there are exceptions...!!! eg Place de l'Etoile. The end result of this is that any accident on a roundabout is 50:50 responsibility : no discussion.

According to information published by the Cruising Association, Belgium will continue to not charge UK users of red diesel this year; they will also give the CA advanced warning if this position changes. UK users who have red diesel in their tank should have a receipt demonstrating that all duty has been paid. The EU has banned the use of red diesel for propulsion in private pleasure craft, hence, one is at risk of being inspected and fined in other EU countries. All this is from the March CA news letter.

Brexit might change this.

Thanks for the correction. In Germany they have these, typically at the entrance to towns and villages, which mean (bet someone corrects me on this) "You have priority for this section".

Had a couple of conversations on this. As far as I can tell HMRC have not advised any timetable to respond to the Court judgement. They seem to have been a bit busy on some other B....... chaos.

The marine industry body has also apparently asked the obvious question would this go ahead if we crash out of the EU.
In the absence of any clarity nobody is spending money doing a proactive changeover (at least in places away from the short channel hops)

Ireland also needs to make a change (from green diesel), but as a continuing EU member it is setting a timescale for this, though not sure whether yet a plan
