Does anyone have experience of this type of boat. I am looking to downsize to an easily handled dayboat with possibility of overnight at anchor. I love the quirky nature of this style of boat which has Volvo kamd43p fitted. However, I was concerned at engine noise during a brief run? How realistic would it be to add noise insulation? I am interested in views on both the Apreamare make and in particular these Volvo engines.

Been to the factory under Vesuvius near Naples.
A lot of modals over the years very well built traditional methods .Opens , cabins , semi cabins etc all sizes .
Good call.
The sea can be choppy around the Amalfi and the hulls are tailored those local conditions .Comfy riding boats .Not fast but comfortable.

You can easily add more insulation plenty of websites wide range of materials to fit under the cockpit sole .Another topic suffice to say it’s a easy option .Sounds still escape out of the side air vents that’s a given , they stay open .

Volvos .
I would given a choice stay clear of aged KADs , at least theses boats are on shafts .So no outdrive issues on top .
I think Apreamare did a wide range of engines as semi custom the family owned firm made what you wanted .
If the number of posts on this forum about VP woes does not ring any bells ?
You might if on FB want to get a independent flavour in either” Volvo Penta Victims “ or “ Volvo Penta owners “

Then reflect for a mo if you want to end up joining that community by default .

I like the styling of them but they're a bit of a Frankenstein boat. Their styling is based on traditional Italian Gozzo fishing boats which had wooden displacement hulls. Apreamares have a GRP planing hull with a load of wood glued to it.

If I was buying one I'd want recently replaced teak and good condition cappings or make sure the price reflects the inevitable cost of replacement.

As for the KAMD43P engines, these are fundamentally pretty robust and will do thousands of hours before a rebuild is required (rebuild kits are available). Some of the peripherals are less reliable (Turbos (£750) need replacing every 15 years or so and oil coolers can leak). Make sure you get someone who knows these engines to accompany you on any sea trial. It's worth noting that this was the last generation of mechanical engine before they went electronic (which brings some issues).

As for the pairing of these engines (with shaft drives) and the boat, I'd be worried about fuel economy. If you want to run at displacement speed then you'll be running at around 7 knots (above this speed you'll have the noisy compressors running until the
turbos kick in).
