Does anyone out there know if there is a Apple compatible grib or grib US out there, I have looked but I am not the sharpest Byte in the RAM box when it comes to confusers.
Thanks in advance for your help

gpsnavx accepts gribs from saildocs and displays on whatever chart you are using. program is not too expensive, there is a free trial, but AIS overlay may not function until you pay. Support is prompt and intelligent and there is another system Mac enc which reads Vector charts as well as raster scanned.
Another way is to run VMware software on your Mac, use Win xp and use grib.us normally in a virtual machine. This is really easy to set up and sounds challenging.I've done it with no hassle so it must be easy!No connection with GPSnavx just impressed, they also do INavx for charts on iPhone, but I just bought a netbook so tech piggy bank is empty for a while.

To run VMware (or Windows directly using Bootcamp) you need a newer 'MacBook' or 'MacBook Pro', it doesn't work on the older 'PowerBooks'.
VMware is more of a "if you really can't find some Mac software" solution, as you need to buy both VMWare and Windows(XP if you can), and if you're downloading GRIB files you'll need some Anti-Virus software too. VMware makes things fairly straightforward, but I find that Windows is still a world of pain.
'Parallels" is a competitor to VMware that does basically the same job, but if you've got a recent Mac you should also have 'Bootcamp' which does integrate Windows as well as Parallels or VMware but is free.

I just stumbled across this site

http://www.polarnavy.com/index.php

They have -quote- PolarView - an efficient free ENC chart planner, supporting S57 and S63 vector charts and GRIB weather data, and PolarCOM - an integrated NMEA 0183 marine navigation instrument data bridge and multipurpose data display. -unquote-

I have downloaded them out of interest. The grib viewer certainly works and displays gribs! I have not been able to play with other aspects. The grib viewer interface is very simple (clean?!). It does not seem to show the same level of detail as maxsea, but it seems all you need in practice.

Personally, I use mac for everything except sailing! However very interestingly, there is also a linux version which I will play with too. If that ran on the Asus, it could be extremely interesting.

Not to be confused with the REAL PolarView! I did a bit of a double-take; the guy who runs PolarView has an office down the corridor from me! And, if you look at it (for fun - I don't suggest it has practical application for many of us), you'll see that the area of interest is similar.
