App chart plotter download for Iphone

I use the phone version as a backup to the plotter, mine is quite old (the plotter that is) and not the most user friendly. Phone gives me a nice track display and is easier to zoom in and out. Plotter is set on a split 'follow the yellow brick road' and chart view. Phone is usually more zoomed out. I do passage planning on the iPad which is really quick then manually enter it in to the plotter.

I think so, its another 25 quid mind. But I have spent a fortune over the last 2 years on chart software for passage planning - neptune, imray etc and this is miles better than both for what I want to do. The basic version still works on the iPad but like a phone app. Having the full res is much nicer.

What do you actually use it for, out of interest? I assume you have a nice big plotter on board, so what do you use the non-waterproof phone version for ?

in your bunk on passage or when doing blind nav on your yachmaster :)

Seriously I don't use it that much but it's just nice to have such a full featured back up for next to nothing.

Check out a harbour when ashore, check out progress from down below, use for a glance when you're on other people boats especially sailing boats as many still have their plotters fitted at the chart table (bonkers I know!) down below.

And of course if the main one goes pop you have a backup. Not happened on this boat yet but it did on my last, during tricky pilotage around Herm on springs. Would have loved the iPhone then.

I also use Navionics UK-Holland. Big Plus also is that once you've bought it the application is updated fairly regularly. My old Raymarine Chartplotter uses CMap charts which cost a fortune to update. I have it on iPhone and iPad, well worth getting the HD version if using an iPad.

Anyone else notice the significant price difference between UK & Holland and all of the other areas? £14.99 for UK & Holland £6.99 for Europe £5.99 US Marine & Lake, but at least it is cheaper than Denmark & Greenland at £29.99!!

I did however I think I paid £40 for the UK/Holland one when it first came out and that was at a discounted price apparently!! So got a bit 'stitched' however great app and worth every penny.

Have it on my Iphone,I now have an Ipad,
was it worth buying the HD version too?

Yep, I have both iPhone and iPad, and use both.

iPhone when away from the boat, pondering where to go, how far it is etc

iPad when on the boat but away from the helm or to record the track.

PS - I found the iPad screen isn't up to being used in bright sunlight, plus of course I'd be a dead man if I got it wet as it belongs to SWMBO

I also use it to watch TV, dvd's etc. Quite cool this year, sunbathing on sun pad watching the grand prix. Yep sunlight is not ideal, I propped it up in the shade and it was OK. Much better in the evening.

I've got the 3g version so haven't done the MiFi. iPlayer only works over wifi, Portishead has BTOpenzone and its included in my tariff. Over 3g I was using yamgo.mobi for live TV but it looks like they have taken BBC1 off sadly.
