River Severn

Used to water ski under the 1st Severn Bridge while working on a tunnelling that passed under the bridge and the Wye for national grid power cables.
We would ski down to Bristol or up to Sharpness, boats were launched of the old ferry slipway next to the Ferry Boat Inn Hotel. We would even ski on boxing day and call into the hotel where we have a large warming brandy or three afterwards.

Timber barges would be towed from Bristol up to the plywood factory at Lydney. they would go up with the incoming tide. When they passed the bridge the tide was so strong the tow string would be in a horse shoe with the third barge along side the tug.

Yes, the estuary looks really benign, but the current can have a rel kick to it.
