Apollo Duck

If you use the inexpensive paid Apollo Duck 3 month ad you can link to your own google Drive ad with easily placed text, photos and videos.

I’ve always been surprised that there didn’t seem to be a paid advert option? Anyone know why the limit exists?
I don't know for sure, but I think it dates back to the days when the paper magazines carried lots of paid classified ads and they didn't want people to advertise boats on here for free rather than paying for a 'proper ad' in a 'real publication'.

Around 2008 (I think it was) when I wanted to advertise my then boat for sale I was amused and a bit puzzled that if I paid for a classified ad in the Yachting Monthly dead trees publication I got a free online ad in the YM online classifieds - I'm not sure they exist nowadays but they did back then. I found that pricing strange because even then the writing was on the wall for paper classified ads and I'd expected that the pricing would be reversed - that paying for the online ad where the value was would get me a free ad in the paper mag which was of less use.

My impression was that YM, like many traditional publications, wanted to pretend that the world wasn't changing and that print on paper was the real deal and the internet just fluff to be resisted for as long as possible.

I've sold half a dozen boats over the last year, mostly beautiful wooden yachts around 30 - 35 foot oa, all advertised with ebay classified.

£19.99 for 4 weeks, and no other fees or commissions to be paid.

Did not know it existed so thanks for that. I will probably give it a go (y)

Good luck.

I started out with ads on both ebay and apolloduck. The level of response through ebay was many multiples higher than that through apolloduck. I only use ebay now.

(Just for the curiously nosey, they were all boats owned by friends and/ or neighbours. They don't have ebay accounts, so I'm very happy to advertise for them).

How does it compare with this Forum's For Sale section, or eBay?

I ask because I have an unused Torqeedo 1103C Electric Outboard Motor to sell which would exceed the measly £400 limit on this forum, and eBay takes a very large percentage of the selling price.
It is a shame about the 400 limit as I have a Torqeedo travel 503 in as new condition that I am selling but unable to put on this site do to the price restriction , perhaps will try appolo

If you're lucky someone wanting one may see your post and contact you directly.

Appoloduck is great for advertising boats and very cheap. Facebook is extremely good for selling almost anything and I believe free. Ive put stuff I was going to bin on facebook and you get nationwide coverage.

Is it possible to just use Facebook for selling things or are you compelled to sign up for the whole Facebook social media experience?

You can sign up to facebook, but you don't have to post anything more than what you want to sell.

Only visit to check your ads, but even then you can have emails to let you know if anyone's asked a question about the advert.
It can be a bit of a puzzle to figure out how to set the security & privacy settings, though.

Im behind the times as far as facebook is concerned. That said I quite like it. the Contessa 32 facebook page is the only real thing I follow. Its pretty impartial and great for sharing projects or getting advice If you dont want any of the social media experience then its simple to ignore it. you have to click to open much up. Id say you might well enjoy the Twister facebook page, Not that I can follow it, nor any one I know as they were all banned banned a very long time ago. That said you have a truly wonderful association website

Facebook has a page called marketplace. you click sell, write a description and price. add some pics and bingo. Its a great tool for business as well. Id give it a go, The Twister bunch would love your input like we do!!.

From the other side, we bought our first boat through an ad on AD. She can't have been too bad because we kept her 18 years.

I wouldn't expect to get my lottery win boat from there, but if I were shopping for a boat at a budget price, it'd be my first stop.

Advertise the battery and motor unit separately.
