Thread on trained squid got me thinking.
1. Nothing in race rules says whole crew must be human (thankfully)
2. Male Gorilla can bench press 1000lbs
3. and has prehensile toes
4. Bananas are cheap.
Makes you think!
In fact I once read of a warship in the days of sail that picked up an ape as a pet in the far east. By imitation the ape learned to work aloft and reef untill a fondness for rum led to a fatal fall.

What you really need is an Orangutan, all the attributes of the Gorilla, but far more athletic - and it can also support itself by earning a living as a Librarian when not sailing, and hence contribute to the running costs of the boat
