AP mk8 GPS antenna problem

My AP Mk 8 GPS unit [which has worked perfectly before] now indicates "Antenna Shorted" as the reason for not working.
I have checked the co-axial cable which appears fine and when the antenna is removed it reads "Antenna Open" which further confirms that it is not a cable problem.

The Antenna itself appears to be sealed with only the connection plug exposed. It gives a reading of 10 ohms across the plug connections.

What can be done ??
Has this happened to anyone else ??
Anyone got a spare ???

My Garmin GPSMAP 225 developed the same message over last winter. I found that the cable where it emerges from the antenna was not very well designed and bent through a right angle. The outer insulation had torn and presumably some water had got in. The replacement is much better, the cable emerging down the axis of the fitting.
