Morning all,

We're often discussing options for a different winter destination. Good flight connections are important for the Boss. Other factors such as good environment; social scene to a certain extent etc obviously equally necessary.

So that's the question, marina looks pretty good and a Cypriot friend of mine waxes lyrical about the place. Any comments gratefully received!

MdR is a great base but we will be on our 4th winter after this next one ? a change may be refreshing ?

Just to add confusion to this thread, our other choice would be Cartagena, comments likewise appreciated!

Many thanks

Do you mean the Limasol marina or the St.Raphael marina in Limassol? Both are very good, the first one is relatively new, big, quite luxurious (like a 5 star hotel!!), right at the seafront near the town center, many facilities and many restaurants etc in and around the marina and walking distance to about everything. BUT, it's very expensive.
St.Raphael marina is smaller, cheaper, offers facilities too, not quite near the city center (you need a taxi or bus) but also a very nice marina. There are also many restaurants, pubs and cafes near the marina. Being small and usually packed you may not be able to find a place there easily. You can find information for both marinas, including contact details and prices if you google for their sites.
Another cheaper (mainly because it's not private owned) but good marina is Larnaca marina.

We were looking at the new one but will look at St. Raphael as perhaps there would be more liveaboards there? Appreciate your comment that the latter is busy. My enquiry is for 2017 so plenty of time to get information.
Many thanks for your reply :)

Hi Sam,

We over wintered in Limassol 'newish' Marina this last winter. We have lived aboard this past 3yrs and found Limassol the most protected Marina we have visited on our journey from the UK. No swell and very little wind. Previous winter hide always (Gib & Kos) The Marina has 2 modern shower blocks, beautifully clean and well maintained. Security there is 1st classand and all employees very helpful. Choice of modern restaurants in Marina or old town square just 5 mins away for more traditional food and entertainment.

This last year there were 6 live aboard yachts + resident ( Micheal & Linda )couple based there, a nice mixture of nationalities and Friday night was looked forward to. They have good bus connections to everywhere and are frequent, they run on time :) Car hire is cheap from November - April and No problems visiting the 'occupied' north side of the island.

The building works on luxury Marina villas is almost complete, and the music noise from certain restaurants subsides as the summer season ends.
Checking in can be frustrating if you do not have clear and straight forward documents ! ( original vat doc ) some nationalities outside Euro find this frustrating. But they did accommodate them with regards to their stay.
Price wise is a little high but think that's reflected in great amenities ( private beach & bar )

We liked it so much will be returning this year :)

Good morning Steve,

Thank you so very much for your reply. It sounds perfect for us! I spend several weeks alone at various times during the winter when the Boss is away so a good location with plenty to keep me occupied is paramount.
