With your Victron inverter you must also remember that its stated power output is NOT applicable for a pure resistive load such as heating water. Read the fine print and you will see that the 1000 watts or 3000 watts or whatever is printed on the case is only applicable at a certain power factor (0.8 from memory). This is a measure of the variation in phase between voltage and current. Inductive loads such as motors have the voltage phase ahead of the current phase and the inverter "appears" to be able to deliver more power (but its not really). A 3000 watt Victron can only supply 2400 to 2500 watts continuously to a resistive load such as a water heater without overheating and triggering the alarm. I learnt this the hard way. This may also be an issue for other pure sine wave inverters.
