as the twin hulls would tend to stop the boat from leaning into the turn, wouldn't this be unstable in high speed turns unless the hulls were very far apart? yachts have big saily things plus deep keelswhich I guess would help to stabilize at high speeds

I know there are high speed cats (thats a laugh, I don't think I've ever been on condor when its on time) crossing the channel but they are big and heavy.

Went aboard the cat at SIB - huge amount of space although you sleep in the rather narrow hulls. Looks a bit odd from some angles and not cheap!

I see what you both mean, about manoevering and price, but I guess with those little engines it is for pottering about. Interesting that it is unsinkable! I wonder if your insurance premiums are cheaper /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I won't be buying one at that price, but there are some rich old codgers on here who like pottering about that may be interested, especially if it comes with some good looking Polish girls as crew /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I have looked at these and they look great, however mooring costs are the big killer. Nearly every marina I have looked at charges 1.5 times their normal rate for a cat, even for a narrow cat, some even charge 2 times!.
I wouldn't personnely contemplate some marinas normal rate, so 1.5 times makes it a bit of none starter really.

I have never thought of buying a cat but must admit when they get the design right they do look good.

Outerlimits produce high speed offshore racing / poker run boats from about 27 feet upwards with twin 500hp engines etc and its said that the can outrun a conventional v bottom boat and are more stable and dont suffer any manouverability problems.

As someone has already said performance cats do seem to be bigger and heavier as in the formula 1 offshore giants with their twin 2000hp engines or whatever they may have.

I liked the look of that little cat in your link looks cute.

Is there any difference do you think to a convential boat that has a twin hull as opposed to the hugely wide cats that I went on at SIBS this year. I can only gather that for performance purposes etc theyhave to have the two hulls fairly close together to allow for some tilt in the turn or would you not end up with a sailing type situation where one of the hulls is constantly in the air around corners ( i appreciate the wind casues some of that effect on sailing versions)

Also zap cats the small 14 foot racing boats they are very similar in design to larger sailing cats but have 50hp engines and handle the rough stuff supposedly very well, they race offshore.

I am the importer of MotorCat and saw a few misconceptions in the forums so I thought I would log in and try and help. The MotorCat fits into a standard marina berth so it should not be charged anymore than a standard boat. I have got it moored on a drying pontoon mooring which is cheap.
Regarding performance you can fit 2x75 engines and get 30knots. Dont be fooled by the smaller engines not delivering performance. Currently I have 2x50 hps and it has a top speed of 23knots.
The boat was not exhibited at SIBS but will be appearing at the next London Show.

Still think it looks a bit plasticy - but I'd be willing to have my mind changed :)

Thanks for the input, does it explain the engine options on the web site? I could have missed it if it was. I must say 30knts looks a bit more interesting for me.

The Formula 1 race cats dont seem to have a problem until they get to about 130 kts so I doubt it would be a problem. At the other end of the scale Zapcats manage quite nicely.
