Anyone still use the Yeoman plotter?

The electronic pad that rests under the charts?

Mine is fullsized not the smaller sport version.

I do and I find it very useful. I think it is a marvellous idea.

I can plug it into a ‘cigar’ outlet or wire it to a small gel battery stored in a cupboard well above waterline.

Obviously I still like paper charts too.

Yes, still have mine set up but tend to only use it for longer trips. It's a bit of a faff to get the charts positioned and to change charts during the trip. But it is very clever and can remember what a boon it was before chart plotters.

Likewise. The now normal MFD plotter is a boon, but the Yeoman can show a much larger area, and is a written record for those that still do. We put an area chart on the Yeoman, for the complete picture. All the detailed stuff is now better done with the electronic one.

Great piece of kit. I have 2 charts in the plotter. One for the Thames estuary & one for the Southern N sea. i just swop them over as needed . However, I have a full range of charts all marked up from my round UK trips ( Via Cally canal) & also CIs & round to Bay of Biscay
So it is fairly easy to change. Using charts is so much better than a chart plotter. If i do want to use a GPS I can use it to load waypoints far more accurately using it than floating round screen

I’m late to the party, having picked one up cheap at a boat jumble recently. It’s awesome. My goal is to get it connected to my chart plotter so you can mark waypoints on the Yeoman and they will (hopefully) appear on the chartplotter. Luxury!

Keeping a 'see-at-a-glance' position check and understanding progress was a real advantage when using Yeoman .
John Hatfield, a brilliant guy. He invited me onto their Boat Show stand as a 'user specialist' for two days.
'Now, don't you get involved when the coxswain of the Tenby Lifeboat turns up, come and get me no matter what else I'm doing on the stand'.
"Hello, I'm the coxswain of the Tenby lifeboat " Just at that moment John had a call of nature, and I came close to joining him !

Guilty as charged.

When I changed / updated the boat I took it with me! As an old timer I find it brilliant for longer passages, across the Irish Sea, St George's Channel, Western Approaches, etc, to get an overall view and perspective.

Interesting that my son, 30's and a product of the technology era, loves the chart plotter, but for passages, he swears by the Yeoman as he can visualise location.
