Its our first sail outside the barrage on Saturday. Our boat is only 20 ft but we are thinking about locking out at about 1.30pm as the tides seem to be favourable and possibly going around flat holm as a first cruise.

Any boats fancy joining? It would be nice to have some company.

sadly, no. But enjoy yourself. You'll feel a real sense of achievement when you've done it, and you wont find it so difficult.

When we got down we thought that it was far too windy. Had the 2 kids with us too so didn't want to risk it. Instead we had a sail around the bay with just the main up.

Sunday was a much better day and we ended up going to the CYC dinghy open day where they had 'try a dinghy' and a barby. Stunning weather.

Will have to try the holms another day...

Wise move Matt.It would have been lumpy out near the Holmes .Last thing you want to do is scare the kids.Ease them into it gently and allways explain to them whats going on.I managed to put my kids off sailing by taking them out in uncomfortable weather. It took about 2 years of very gentle sailing to get them confident again.

Got to agree, Graham. Keep em hungry for more. It's all supposed to be fun.

Matt, you had a barbie on a dinghy? That's pretty good. There's not much room on them Toppers.

Yeah Martin there was only enough room for 1 burger and my pint kept slipping over the side!

Thanks Graham, guess I will try on a more tranquil day. Looks like this weekend is out unfortunately.

Matt,
I came down to BC last year and Graham took me out for my first sail. His comments are always worth listening to and his boys are both keen sailors and general good guys. I have to say I think you made a wise decision as there are a couple of times I have been out in the BC and been surprised. It is a very unusual and demanding place to sail, not least because things can happen very quickly.
