Hi all – I’ve done a bit of searching but have had no luck so far – does anyone know where I can source replacement stainless baskets for these sea strainers (installed in an Azimut)? – I’m even having difficulties in identifying the manufacturer – doh!

I’ve already patched (welded) the baskets up a year ago but it’s about time I replaced them before they fall to bits and get sucked up into the pumps!

Sorry about the rubbishy pics – any help really appreciated – I hope one day I might be able to contribute to the forum rather than just take take take!

Thanks! :)

Yea yeah, put it on open forum not PM!

They're the same as mine CMJ, but I don't know the answer to your question. I do know where to buy them - in a shop in Antibes that has them in stock in the window in that size and bigger.

Must say CMJ, I love your allen-keyed jubilee clips, second picture. I really want some of those. Anyone know who stocks them? [/GEEK]

You could try ASAP Supplies, Aquafax or EC Smith. Their under "intake water filters".
You can get replacement baskets from the US, but for the price its the same as complete new units in the U/K. However, I have in the past obtained new clear lids for these from my chandlery which were not cheap, so I'm sure if you ask one of the 3 above they may be able to put you in the right direction.
However, they usually work on identifying your Sea Strainers on the port size i.e: 2" bsp.
I also see that your strainers basket has a handle, some of these strainers don't have handles so be sure to mention that yours have!

Good luck and hope this info gets you on your way.

Yep, those jubilee clips are nice JFM, and with a rag wiped over them, still look brand-new. If I remember correctly, they have the p/n (and hopefully manufacturer) stamped on them (not visible in the pic). I'm down on the boat this afternoon, so will have a look and report back.

To all posters - many thanks for your help - I'll probably give Aquafax a call to start with. I assumed these baskets are a regular serviceable item, but it sounds like maybe they're not. Perhaps I've been a little too anal in pulling them out for a clean (when there's a few minute strands of seaweed in them - the filters have broken where the handles are spot-welded to the basket).

cheers :)

Binned them

I had the same type strainers in my boat and I had corrosion problems with the basket.

I never did work out how easily you could quickly clear a blocked strainer or two in a force 5 at sea with one engine still running?

I fitted Vetus strainers with a clear plastic spin off lid, a 60 second job to clear, job done.

Mine are 15 years old and still look brand new.
I have had them for 5 years and never had to clear them.
Every two two years I take the stainless strainer out, dunk it into concrete cleaner 60 seconds, rinse and put back.

What are you guys doing to them ?
Sticking a screw driver in to clear away the crud ?

Secret is not over tightening the bolts, but I have found quicker and less fuss than the Volvo plastic spin off type that always got fouled up.

Not sure about yours DAKA (maybe they're a one piece bit of mesh), but mine are the mesh plus a bit of folded stainless for the rim and handle also both spot-welded on - and it's these spot-welds that have given up and sellotape isn't working for me anymore he he :)
