Hi all,
Have recently aquired an 8hp Yamaha but it has a hole in it.
the hole is there I assume to gain access to the gear linkage as it is at the bottom of the upper casing, question is what should be in it?
if left uncovered there is no water to the tell tail and exhaust comes out through it. Should it have a metal plug or just a rubber gromit and does anyone know where I can get one from.
The motor is fairly old but works well it is a 8hp 2 stroke jobby with a long shaft.

You can view parts catalogues back to 1984, which may help, and owners manuals back to 1998 HERE

You should be able to ID the year from THIS SITE

There may well be just a rubber plug in a hole that gives access to a joint in the shift rod that will allow the exhaust gas to escape if its missing but that should not affect the cooling water flow to the engine. If it has pee hole you should still get water from that but if normally there is just some water sprayed out from the exhaust relief holes then that wont happen with a big hole in the side of the leg.

Sorry dont know anything about Yamahas. Someone will though.

If no one picks the question up post on the Reader to reader forum. Thats the place for practical help on small outboards. This forum is Ok for questions about fecking great diesel engines in gin palaces etc.

Hi Paul, when you say you have one is that the gromit or the engine?
Have now identified that it should be a rubber bung, just need to find where to get one from in Birmingham.
