Anyone out sailing this bank holiday????

No not sailing this weekend although I did do the race control yesterday for a poorly attended Keel Boat Race. Meanwhile our club held a State Championship for 125 dinghies with about 20 boats over the weekend. I did race mangement last weekend and raced the weekend before.
We have a big interclub championship next weekend 8 short races that we are hosting.Using Foundation 36 (Farr) I will be out on following Friday night (last night race) and Sunday last persuit race.
Our season starts to fizzle out at this time of the year before starting the winter season. Weather this easter weekend beautiful max 29 min around 18 last night. gentle breezes. off for a swim later this morning and of clourse clean the boat bottom. Almost all a/f gone by now. Good luck to all my UK friends for the new season olewill

I am doing family things this weekend but thinking how amazing it would have been to be waking up on my yatch westerly Tiger 25 having a coffee and bacon on toast and a slow sail round the solent. And the warmth of the sunshine cutting through the fog and seeing the sea. Are well maybe next weekend.

My cruiser is no where near ready but i will be going out in my Phantom dinghy in 2.5 hours time to try out my new laminate sail.
Just hope it is not too cold . 50 years ago , dressed in just shorts & wooly jumpers i would not have cared a jot, but now , even with the latest in wetsuit design ,I am beginning to shiver before I even get to the waters edge

Still working on the boat. Yesterday I was going to start filling in some holes but left the resin at home! Still, fitted a new cockpit locker so I can now get the gas installed safely. Contrary to popular belief you can cut up a Centaur with a jig saw, but it takes a long time and creates lots of dust! Good job I had the foresight to take a mask, shame I forgot the vacuum cleaner!
Then I found out that two of the retaining bolts were too short so I couldn't finish the job, why does this happen, is it just me or do other people find that despite meticulous forward planning they have a lot of jobs half done?

Yep!

Launched Friday, had a great shake down sail on Saturday in the Chichester harbour even though it was a bit on the chilly side. New boat to me so very pleased with the results :encouragement:only one issue to report that the wind indicator is stuck fast, was fine before the starlings used it as a fairground ride. Easter seems to have come early this year, lots of boats still on the hard!

Happy Sailing

Gareth

Further to post 5 -I got back at 14-00 hours after 2 races back to back. after the hassle of dressing, launching etc i was knackered. came second in the first race - thrashed by my son. but beat the rest. so I won an easter egg- that will help the waistline cos the grandson is not getting his hands on it this time-second race gave up after 1.5 laps totally shattered & gagging for a coffee
Great fun, really glad I went , but I think I need to concentrate on cruising these days

Yep, I was out, brought my little westerly from Conwy to a West Kirby, a cheeky little over night sail and got to my mooring at 10:30am, a lovely night with a full moon to light up the way.

Perfect!

yep drove to West Mersea for 8:30 am parked in car park costing £2:50 for 24hrs got a coffee and pie from the shop and sat on the jetty in the sunshine waiting for" stacey" the ferry boat to do her first easter egg hunt tour and also for deeper water to get upstream to my mooring , got lift to boat around 10:15 put sails on and try to start engine to find a broken battery clamp so I bogged it up and managed to start engine :) and powered down to the sea .
up with the sails and went up near Bradwell Mariner , back to Mersea beach huts then up to Tolsbury to get to the marina for 1 pm to drop "Thursdays Child " in for next weeks boat sale my wife was there with a mop and bucket so we washed the deck over and had a walk about the boats left around 4 and headed back to Mersea by road to pick up my car and on return found another space in car park (shock) so put 20p in meter and got a pass until next morning so on that note I treated the wife to a swift beer ( me ) and one G+T for her with cod chips and peas while watching the sun go down ....................

Left Southampton in the drizzle on Friday morning, got to Poole mid afternoon via thick fog at Hurst but then clear in Christchurch Bay.

Bashed back to Lymington on Saturday morning in a strong breeze, bright and clear but very cold. Went for a walk Saturday afternoon, plus shopping and some boat jobs, then dinner at the Ship.

Sunday night was a Maxi Owners' Association meetup at Beaulieu, so we didn't go far. Used the calm conditions at slack water to calibrate the new log and the relocated fluxgate, then Newtown Creek for lunch.

Not much wind this morning, so just motored round from Beaulieu back to Southampton. Sun came out and it feels like summer :)

Sounds amazing how far did you sail?

Sailed pretty much all the way apart from the final 6 miles as there was not enough wind in the morning, TBH there wasn't a load of wind during the night but I wasn't in any rush due to tides.

The sun was shining in the afternoon and we did see some porpoises and seals before it went dark so even though it was a slow journey it was very enjoyable.

I did a short overnighter, just to check out the marina at Greystones, really but an almost complete dearth of wind thwarted any sailing aspirations, though the motor got a nice run........

Lovely couple of days mooching around the River Colne and Blackwater, going nowhere very fast but pleasent , if chilly, drifting about very uncrowded East Coast rivers. Good job the heating was working though. Beautiful sunset on Sunday evening.
