Anyone on a swinging mooring at Felixstowe Ferry?

Hi guys. I have been offered an all-tide mooring at Felixstowe Ferry. Just off from the slipway.

Nice and peaceful there today but wondered what it is like in ‘high season’? Jet Ski madness or quiet east coast river? Packed with day trippers or not too busy?

I have an oldish Avon Rover as tender, do things go walkabout often or is it a scrote free zone?

I loved the yard and it’s nice having the Deben to play on and easy access to lumpy water when feeling more adventurous.

Any opinions welcome

Steve

If you walk around the foreshore and just above it you will see dozens of Dinghys tied up , awaiting their owners : understand that the Boat Yard require a small fee for each dinghy tied up there :

Yes the moorings at the Ferry have easy access to either 'up river' wanderings or 'out to sea' jaunts as one likes

Understand that the Ferry boat skipper can sometimes take one to their moored Boats in the moorings area ; so giving easy access , even if only used as a one way jaunt

Enjoy the River Deben

We have a mooring at the ferry, make sure your dinghy is chained and padlocked as there have been some have gone missing - or have a very scruffy dinghy. Can get busy in the summer but a great place to moor.

Last few years there has been a jet sky element that go and play on the bar around tea time.......I say tea time cause thats usually when I'm in the area. No problem as such but some of the guys run old fashion stand up 2 strokes for stunting in the rougher water.
On shore breese in the afternoon it can get noisy

Thank you everyone. It is a lovely place in mid March! I have decided against putting my little Skanner 19 in this year.

Being registered blind I am having a bit of a crises of confidence I think. So a season learning the river in my dinghy might be more sensible.

I have had a mooring in the exact same spot for years. Very nice and quiet, No real problems and a joy. Lots of flying things that love to crap on your boat though.... What sort of boat will you be putting on there.........

Mine went missing but not stolen.... It decided to go on a little holiday to Bawdsay

Thanks for the reply. I have had a change of plan and the boat in question is going in the tractor shed until next spring, or I might sell her. Really undecided to be honest. I am registered blind but have some useful vision in one eye. Having sailed for years on the Blackwater we moved to Suffolk two years ago and I sold my last boat, a Colvic Watson 28’ ketch. The current boat is a Skanner 19, a neat little plastic gaffer. The trouble is getting to Felixstowe Ferry using public transport. For some reason I am not allowed to drive anymore:-). Woodbridge is two stops by train, so doable. Also my confidence has gone over the last few years and a new to me boat plus an unfamiliar river is bothering me a lot.

so new plan is to put my little dinghy on a bouy at Woodbridge, I have a Kyson mooring there, and joined the sailing club. Plan is to day sail a bit, learn the river, and get a feel for the place. Gain a bit of confidence and try again next season.

Sorry to ramble but wanted to explain!
