Hmmm! I think I now know why I received a text saying git and another saying that sixpence has a big mouth! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I barely mentioned anything that may or may not have happened to the skipper of a skipper or indeed to the skipper itself; if you follow me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He told me all about the day himself by PM so who am I to keep such things quiet /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
At least he managed to stay floating most of the day though /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Maybe it's time for a few more cockup confessions on here ? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Someone once told me that the best way to learn is to get out there and mess up a few times, didn't think they were talking about doing it all in one day though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We were sailing a Tradewind 33, long deep keel for those that don't know. On board were me, partner, her brother and sister in law, their toddler and my old school chum P.

We showed off by sailing off the mooring and later anchoring under sail for lunch. After lunch raise anchor and leave under sail; all going like a dream.

Approaching the mouth of the Crouch a chain of things began to happen

The tide is falling

P (novice sailor) asks for a go at driving the boat and is soon making a reasonable fist of it

Toddler throws up very comprehensively over her mum ( who is a striking looking and statuesque lady)

Baby is handed to dad to be cleaned and mum divests herself of 'icky garments

Robin has his head in a chart and taking no notice

P has stopped looking where he is going and is ogling down the hatch

As the lady covers herself the wandering eye of the helmsman returns to the water

Errr...is the water meant to be breaking like that here? says he

What? says I

A Tradewind under full sail can carry her way an impressive way up a mudbank

So far in fact that by the time you have depowered the sail and started the engine you is stuck!

I calculated that we would refloat at midnight...I got that bit right!

As the boat dried out on her ear I called the coastguard and told them we did not need a rescue and would be on our way later

When we were nicely dried out I walked the anchor out in the right direction and then we spent a few hours watching nothing much happening before enjoying our first night sail in that boat!

Moral of the story? pride before a fall!

Grounding caused by buxom wench then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
We told the CG we were fine too, but they decided to send out Hunstanton RNLI anyway. The bloke on VHF was happy enough but I'm not sure about the ones that had to get out and push /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Don't hold your breath waiting for sailorman to confess anything, he keeps very quiet about that /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
