This is one of a number of similar fittings on a Sea Eagle inflatable kayak which I have already replaced twice with original spares from Sea Eagle in 7yrs of ownership. Clearly their stainless steel quality control is not up to much

Has anyone seen similar fittings of hopefully higher quality from another supplier?

Thanks Pete but the swivel eye snap hook on this site seems to be made of nickel bronze which will probably mean it lasts even less time than the items I'm trying to replace. However I've googled on this description and a few stainless steel items have come up so thanks for your help, thats great

It's not stainless is it? Looks very zinc plated to me

Youre right Nick but it was sold to my wife (he says neatly putting the blame on her!) as stainless

You probably bought it from the same place that I got this:-

Seriously though, stainless steel can sheer without any notice.
I've known this for a long time but this was my first experience of it failing in this way.
The shackle was too small for the job it was doing but it is the way that it failed that is most worrying.

Yup one of the disadvantages of stainless. It may be more corrosion resistant than mild steel but it is more brittle
