Anyone know this boat? Is there a website/register of sail numbers?

OOOOOOPS :( Sorry folks, today must be "Ignorant Bobby Day".

So which west-coast of Scotland club flies a blue(defaced)? My BiL did, so I should know.

According to http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/gb-blenr.html:

Plain blue: Royal Gourock YC, Royal Western YC, Royal Highland YC, Royal Western YC (Scotland), Royal Northern and Clyde YC, Royal Scottish MYC.

Defaced blue: Royal Clyde YC (listed, but I think now part of the RNCYC)

Ok a bit of fred drift, this site is quite useful if you see a burgee or ensign you don't recognise...
http://www.flags.net/UNKG14.htm

Thanks. Enjoyable and useful.
So BiL either was Royal Northern and Clyde (but that's with an undefaced blue ensign) or it may be it was a Royal Cornwall.

I shall have to ask him at Christmas.

Could be a Kim Holman Rummer Class

Rum-mooring-600x388.jpg

I had one of those once - a Rummer yawl.

CCC isn't a "Royal" club, so I don't think members fly the blue. I might be wrong... CYCA is the Clyde Yacht Clubs Association, so doesn't have any members - just member clubs.

EDIT: Sorry - should have read the rest of the Thread. (I'm a poet - don't you know it?)

Can't tie in the sail number but it looks a bit like a cruiser 8 which is a clyde class built by McGruers. Some were built as 17t auxiliary yawls and it could be one of them.

Here is one
http://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/details/568/David-Boyd-42-ft-8-Metre-CR-1967/yacht-for-sale/

and the register at McGruers

http://mcgruer-register.org/listboats.html shows which are yawls
Fraser Noble (grandson of McGruer?) who works as a Marine Surveyor would surely know.

You are forgiven. I too am capable of Doh! moments:rolleyes:, as you have seen, above!

I'll try the mcgruer website(s)

And oldvarnish, thanks for the photo. What a beautiful boat. Real style.

Looks more like a Swan to me! :D
The yacht has a radar - the one in your original pic didn't, but it was taken 2004.

F'goodness sake A1Sailor, you had me going then. "Of course it's not a swan" I said outloud!!
Then I saw "it" bottom left. Doh, too early in the morning for such wit:rolleyes:

And looking on the mcgruer site, and also the Crinan Classic apparently the sail numbers don't match.

OK
It's not Saboo (Sail number 266C) a Holman & Pye 43' yawl which was definitely GREEN in 2004 and is green again - she was white for two seasons - 2011/2012.

Coigach's sail number is 129C

The Cruiser 8's were an International Class of which some were built on the Clyde.

CCC members may fly a blue ensign - but only if they are flying an appropriate burgee from a Club that is entitled to fly a blue ensign - but not during a CCC event.

Regards
Donald

Some of the yawls on the Mcgruers listing are 17 tons whilst Elona is 14 tons. Their styles are very similar hence how I thought it might be one of them

I stand corrected if the 17 ton yawl isn't the same hull as a cruiser 8. I was putting 2+2 together based on something i read on the McGruers site that there were a few yawl rigged 8's

I notice Sule Skerry is the first of four built and doesnt have the doghouse and has a sprayhood

http://mcgruer-register.org/Sule_Skerry_1958.html

looks similar but the sail number is wrong

At a guess it's Rampage, designed by Arthur Robb for Lord Burnham and if I am right recently owned by the Taylor-Jones, parents of the MD of Foxs.
Owned for many years on the Blackwater and Crouch by Clive Garner.

The website worked for me ok

What a beautiful pair of boats and what a comparison to a modern aft cabin AWB.

You bought these two with your heart but I wouldn't like to guess at their cost if built today to the same specification and quality.

I've been in touch with one of the joint owners of Sule Skerry.
Well, at first sight and on a small scale, I thought it was Sule Skerry, but when I saw the sail number noted down I realised it wasn’t.
Not one of the other McGruer 43s either as they all had the traditional doghouse, which Sule Skerry in fact doesn’t have. I fancy she’s also a bit shorter – maybe 37 feet?
