I think these days... you're lucky if they get to serve 1/3 of the sentence... so with good behaviour, I reckon he'd be out under licence after 8 or so...

First half of the sentence will be served in prison, second half in the community 'on licence'.
Smugglers/dealers/suppliers deserve everything they get, and more.
Big risks, big pay days, big sentences.

+1 - If we allowed the army to use them as live targets it would have 2 additional benefits, 1) The army would have excellent uplift in training and 2) reduced "repeat offenders"
