hi everyone, im trying to nail down the connection for this outboard (mercury 7.5 two stroke),although i've no acess to the engine at the moment, i thought someone might know on the off chance so i can get on to ordering one,i know there's not alot to go on, dont have the serial no either.....sorry,might be asking a bit much here!! thanks for any replies in advance

Hello Pete - You do not state the size of the boat you will be hanging the engine off the stern but I was tasked to a Mayday shout for Solent CG in 2010 from Gosport to Hayling Island, a distance of 13 nm return, using a Avon Waverider (ex RAF, 4metre Inshore Rescue RIB) and 20HP unit and it cost me £25 in petrol.

Motorboats are not cheap to run! :eek:
 
Mercs have used various different fittings and different diameter hoses.

You need to know the engine serial number to be sure of getting the right one.

Be aware that there are connectors that look almost the same but arent.
Also be aware that some non- OEM connectors can be a bad fit and allow air to enter.

Tell me about it, i used to be a coxswain,working on the EERV's in the north sea,twin 60's on the back of an avon will certainly drinks some juice too!!, fortunatly i have a two stroke diesel inboard and this outboard is just a aux, im hoping it will be enough to push along my toy at at least 2 knots should the main fail,if i ever get the thing mounted and running :)

Thanks vic, i kinda knew i was asking a bit much with the lack of info, i do this all the time....leave the house for my trip away,get bored after two weeks,then wish id written down measurements and serial no.s etc etc for ordering gear for when i get back, thanks for the info all the same.useful.

we have the 6hp mercury which takes the standard small motor 2 prong fuel connector you can get at any chandler. If the 7.5 takes the same no need to pre-order the connector. Just take the outboard to the chandler when you get it and see if they fit.
 
Do you have a photo with the serial number plate on? That's what I used when I needed mine, just kept on zooming and got there in the end :)

As Vic pointed out and I know from experience. If it's not the manufacturer's own part it will probably spit out the "O" ring or the clip will fail.
 
Thanks lads, will have to check the serial no. when i get back ashore, worth a shot though! you never know if someone has the same engine out of all the members here, good idea to take the whole engine to a supplier,would save to-ing and fro-ing,thanks again

I've looked a little deeper since my earlier reply. For some reason the fuel connectors are not listed in the engine parts lists so even armed with a serial number I don't know how to look up the correct connector.

A dealer may be able to identify the right one from the number, or from the age which can be determined from the number.

I think if you determine the type, ie a twist on type or the 2 prong type, and the hose bore you will be able to identify the right type.
If you cannot get the engine to a dealer be sure whoever you buy from will exchange it if you get the wrong part.
