Got a business trip to Spain tomorrow for the rest of the week and it looks like the Hotel is a short walk to Puerto Banus. Got a fairly full agenda but was wondering what's worth exploring if I find a spare hour or so.

Thanks for any tips.

When we're down there we just 'wander about'. We're based in Marbella when down there but do head over to Puerto Banus for a look around. Puerto Banus is quite a small place but do have a wander down by the marina (obviously). There are some decent priced restaurants by the marina.

When we were there, markets ran in the square, but doubt you'll that this time of year.

Failing that and you're looking for a bit of a laugh, do some window shopping at any of the clothes shops close to the Marina. The prices will give you a chuckle. I remember swmbo seeing a dress she loved when we were down there and I thought 'why not'. As it turned out they had no size 8's left (must be all the skinny people down there!) so didn't buy. I went online when we got home and got the dress for about half the price it was priced at in the shop in Puerto Banus!

Chaplins Bar at the "entrance" to the marina is the place to be, to start and finish an evening - alternatively, right at the other end, just near the beach is a cocktail type bar with rustic tall chairs. A long way to fall, I've been told!:D

If you're there for an evening you might find the marina front becomes a pose of Ferrari's, Porsche's et al, crusing by.

If you head a street back, from the marina front, some of the establishments there can be as seedy as you wish !

Ah yes, I remember walking into that place and stumbling out :D It's right on the beach and designed to look like an old Junk ship. Nice place. Cocktails are €10 but they're lovely, albeit all about presentation. It's a great place to go to get your '5 a day' though :D

I don't meant to sound like a jealous **** here but again, it's a great way to get a laugh looking at all the middle aged men doing 'laps' of the marina... I thought only 17 year olds in Civics did that?

I've heard these rumours too, so far not been lucky (or unlucky?!) enough to be offered any services!!!

Yes take it from me please be careful last year I had my wallet, watch and spare cash taken from me and I didn’t even notice, Honest no drink involved …. I actually stopped to help and old lady who had fallen ……. There are some smooth operators working on the back street.

Try the big prawns in the Red Pepper … but only order two even if you’re hungry… Piano Man bar or Joys can be good with live entertainment…

Just be sensible and enjoy it some of the boats down there are awesome.....

(We berth in a small marina named Cabopino (other side of Marbella to Puerto Banus) about 25 mins away) :) :)

If you go to Banus be prepared for some of this:-

That`s the place for me, I get a little tired of Puerto Banus(not a boat owner point of view, yet) but Cabopino is another matter, quiet and next to a nice beach. And then there`s Albert`s.;)

Just got back from Marbella yesterday

Hi,

I have been going to Marbella (4-5 times a year) for 15 years now and most times i make at least a quick trip to Banus (on boat or car). It really is everything everyone says it is and more that they never imagined..I have never known anywhere else like it. It has expensive and cheap places, flash glitz and reserved places, kids places and "grown up" places (mentioned earlier), Salty sea dogs and Golf fanatics, amazing day time shopping malls and amazing night life. Great restuarants and terrible ones. It has a constant flow of people walking through the marina and resturants. i can sit and watch this for ages...all humanity passes by..everything from drop dead models in ultra expensive outfits to guys in "extra extra large" footy T Shirts with wobbly bits spilling out and dont forget the glamorous mums with high heels and evening dresses pushing happy kids with ice cream covered faces in buggys.

So my top tip is to go to a front line bar/restuarant my favourites are at far end (near the marina offices) and get a table front line. Dont settle for second line, just go to the next place that looks interesting. Sit down and take it all in.. Dont judge, get yourself a good bottle of red and just watch...

Having lived in the hills behind Banus for the last 7 years there are not many places I dont know in and around the area.

Yummy mummies plenty of them, great doing the school run.

It is a great playground and has something for everyone.

I guess the original poster has been and gone. Hope you had a nice time and the weather was good for you.

Cabopino ACE been there a few times, we are not far in Puerto de la Duquesa

I've been berthed there for the last 3/4 years but Just bought me a new boat Fairline Targa 40, final additions/toys being fitted now in Essex and the boat will be on berth circa 10th April (right outside Alberts - Lady Rona Jane II) Will be planning to visit and use the boat a lot more this season, so I guess we wil see you in Puerto de la Duquesa at some point ..... Or give me a shout if your around my area. Be good to meet up.:D

It really is a super marina, not too big just has everything that you need good restaurant’s . Albert’s yes just stay away when they have their Abba tribute nights :o) :) . Julies on the corner is the one for me sitting there cold beer in my hand watching the boats come and go .......

BTW I’ve just secured the berth right outside Albert’s .. look out for the boat (Lady Rona Jane II) and if I’m there, come over and introduce yourself and we can have a beer or three :):D:)

If I remember correctly wasn`t there a boat with lots of rods on the back on or around that berth? and opposite a sailing yacht(big) that never moved, it was the most fouled up boat I ever saw.

A couple of beers sounds good to me. I have a place up the road at Benalmadena Costa. Not too far. Cheers.

ACE

What is the entrance like there now?

I once tried to get in and the seagulls were walking in the main channel.

It’s still pretty tight, its dredged almost every 3 or 4 days, but if your careful stick to the middle it’s not a problem… it’s not the first time we have helped a bigger boat off the sand ….

It’s been cleaned up a fair bit and most of the older boats moved on, its building up and becoming quite a wee exciting marina, lots of good quality places to eat and drink and the beach just to the side …. The only problems is parking the place can get choked with cars just abandoned (because you’d never park it like that ...) It’s not a cheap marina for sure but I like it and just perfect for me and only 10 minutes from where my place is in Elviria ….

Last time I was in Benalmadena the port was heaving lots to do and see driving the boat in and around the marine is a test in itself!!!
