I’m surprised to read of your observations and they certainly contradict my personal experience. It’s mostly the smell. Fans of ventilation universally don’t notice the ”boaty” pong when they reopen their boat and are in denial (I’ve seen it often) when people with them point it out. ”What do you mean, smell? It smells fine in fact it doesn’t smell at all”. Put it this way I wouldn’t trust them in a wine tasting to tell the difference between a fine wine and a dead rat.
I’ve had my current boat, bought new, for 7 years and had my previous one for about 10 years, selling it at 13 years old. Neither had a musty smell, both were/are “dry”
During, say, monthly visits to the marina over winter time I really look forward to opening up my current boat as I’m still greeted by that lovely and intoxicating “new boat smell”.
Perhaps you’ve just given an objective definition to the difference between a MAB and an AWB ?
So you don't want to learn something by coming and doing a "sniff test" then? If you're happier just to believe your own prejudices, fine.
Yes, my wife comes along on the boat, although less frequently than she used to as she now has some mobility issues after smashing her femur in a silly horse-related incident. She is blessed with a wonderful sense of smell; one of the reasons why I keep the boat squeaky clean.
Fully agree. My wife, too, has an acute sense of smell and I’d be the first to know if she wasn’t happy because of a smelly boat ?
